In 2010, Japanese Baseball League, JBL, executives proposed a plan to expand the league. The proposal consisted of adding a second league, which would co-exist with the current league (JBL). (For the baseball illiterate, imagine the National Football League and how it has two conferences, AFC & NFC. The JBL will add another league for their current teams to contend with.)
So, why would I write about JBL adding a league? Or why is this even news? Simple. The league they're adding is not even going to be in Japan. Crazy, huh? The new league, complete with 14 teams, will have home stadiums in the Philippines--The Filipino Baseball League. That's right--the JBL is expanding to 30 teams, like the MLB; though there will be an international flavor to the teams, which is quite intriguing.
Now that the JBL and FBL are under one banner, the executives from both sides have agreed on a new league name. They chose Pacific Rim Baseball League (PRBL).
